SMM Hamburg 2016 Highlights

SMM Hamburg, the leading international maritime trade fair, took place on the 6th-9th September 2016. This year it focused on Digitalisation to help the industry cope with a difficult market situation. More than 2,200 exhibitors from all over the world participated in the event, with roughly 50,000 industry visitors, and 93,000 square metres of exhibition space.

Digitalisation and Green Propulsion were the key topics at his year’s SMM fair. The fair organisers had erected a dedicated 3,500 square metre exhibition hall for Green Propulsion to feature relevant products and services.
More than two thirds of exhibitors hailed from countries other than Germany, making it the most international SMM to take place so far. The fair also boasted record high levels of exhibitor and visitor satisfaction. 93 per cent of visitors said they would gladly recommend SMM (SMM independent survey).

Kawasaki used this year’s SMM as an opportunity to launch the new HMF three-speed radial piston motor – the only motor of its kind currently on the market. With three displacement modes, one of which can be a freewheel, it offers improved flexibility for the marine market. The HMF has been developed to ensure it can be relied upon, even in the most arduous conditions. Staffa radial piston motors have been known to run for over 70,000 hours in a variety of demanding applications without the need for replacement - the HMF motor is no different. Once the HMF motor had been developed and manufactured, it underwent 1,000 hours of extensive testing to ensure it would be robust enough to withstand harsh conditions and applications.
